Predicting energy performance at design stage is notoriously tricky - the disappointing reality is that often design and construction teams are too optimistic and once the building is occupied it turns out to be less efficient than expected. 

The UKGBC has recommended that the offices sector should reduce energy demand by an average of 60% by 2050, and there are now a range of operational energy prediction methodologies available to help, including Design for Performance.
