Yvonne Hutchinson in her article “Black history should mean more than slavery” (1 April, page 18) regrets that no one has heard of the black musical phenomenon, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.

I am pleased to report that the London Welsh Chorale, of which I am a member, is performing his wonderful work, Hiawatha’s Wedding Feast, on 23 July at the Royal Academy of Music, Marylebone Road, London. Any readers wanting tickets should contact me at Clare@innisfree.org.uk.

For the record, Coleridge-Taylor, who was born in Holborn, central London, was an ardent supporter of the pan African movement and remained so until his death.
