EG Carter contracts manager Steve Dawe managed to sucker us with this charming tale about a charming mug.

His daughters gave it to him in the early 1970s and it has travelled with him to South Africa, where it was used both on sites and in the Durban offices of a major contractor, for 28 years. And he’s still using it now – in Tewkesbury. He writes: ‘Having read that you might have to start giving away your mugs to family and friends, I thought why not give me one?’ Steve, we’d love to.
