A parliamentary inquiry has been launched into how best to improve the energy efficiency of Britain’s existing housing and commercial buildings.

The All Party Urban Development Group, a committee of MPs and peers focused on regeneration policy, is calling for submissions from the public and private sectors on the reforms needed to reduce the environmental footprint of existing stock. The inquiry wants local firms and political leaders to get involved. Buildings contribute just under half of all carbon emissions but new buildings represent only around 2% of the total stock. The inquiry is prompted by concerns that the government is not moving fast enough to meet a 2019 target for greener commercial buildings. For more information, visit allparty-urbandevelopment.org.uk
