4:50PM Firm to advise on north London upgrades for TFL

Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Transport for London (TfL) as technical advisor on a programme of enhancement work to rail lines in north London. The North London Railway Infrastructure Project (NLRIP) aims to improve capacity and capability and will include related infrastructure on the North London Line (Richmond to Stratford), the London Euston to Watford Junction local line, the West London Line (Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction via Kensington Olympia and the Gospel Oak to Barking line). These enhancements will run in parallel with renewals that Network Rail plans to undertake prior to the Olympic Games.

There will be a direct link between the North London Railway Infrastructure Project (NLRIP) and the East London Line Project (ELLP). The ELLP will enhance the existing East London Line between New Cross/New Cross Gate and Dalston Junction Station.

Mott MacDonald's role involves advising TfL, as client sponsor, on technical matters, with Network Rail being responsible for the development and implementation of the scheme.

Jeff Sarsby, Mott MacDonald’s Overground Programme director, said: “We are delighted to have been selected by TfL on this new project which is a key part of TfL’s plan to achieve an overall NLR upgrade. For Mott MacDonald, which is also assisting on the East London Line project, it means holding the key technical advisory appointments for the combined new London Overground service, recently announced by the Mayor of London."
