Mechanical and electrical services engineer Morfitts has installed an 185kw capacity wood chip boiler and fuel supply system at a new monastery at Crief Farm in North Yorkshire.

The building is the first new monastery to be built in the UK in around 500 years, and will provide monastic living accommodation for 26 Benedictine Nuns.

John Cundale, Morfitts’ mechanical engineer said: "Working on a new monastery is quite unusual, to say the least, but being asked to source and install an environmentally friendly boiler is less so. As clients seek to reduce their carbon footprint and use alternative sources of energy, our expertise in providing appropriate, sustainable solutions is more and more in demand.”

The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2009.
