The steady rise in the number of homeless people in bed-and-breakfast accommodation in Wales is worrying and baffling (26 November, page 11).
A 400% rise is significant and disappointing.
But a six-week limit on keeping families with children in B&Bs may not be sufficient time to find alternative placements.
The Welsh assembly must lobby the government for the introduction of positive measures to tackle the root cause of the problem: the housing shortage.
It would be fair to say that unless this issue is addressed, social ills in the areas concerned will worsen. This is the 21st century, and I think it’s reasonable to expect a home to be a necessity, not a privilege.
