The increased use of modular, or prefabricated, wiring systems has given rise to concern that many installations may not be fully tested to BS 7671.
Although the modular units are often made to product standards, design details such as length of run and overall conductance cannot be assured until after the units have been designed and sometimes installed.

The ECA advises that considerable if not full BS 7671 on site inspection and testing will be required on all modular installations. The Association’s Technical Committee (Power) is currently discussing with BSI the possibility of drafting a code of practice for the design and installation of these systems.

In the meantime, the ECA stresses that members should realise that the principal responsibility for the BS 7671 aspects of these installations, including design, installation, inspection and testing, will almost certainly rest in the lap of the installer.
