A mobile wireless CCTV system has been deployed by Tonbridge and Malling crime and disorder reduction partnership to help combat problems including anti-social behaviour in this area of Kent.
A Petards Swift system, using police S-band frequencies, is being used for the purpose. Video footage is recorded and the system deployed and controlled by police from a mobile receiver station situated nearby in either a building or vehicle, depending on the local circumstances.
In one recent exercise, centred on the Kingshill area of West Malling, nuisance offences such as disturbances of the peace and minor criminal damage including graffiti caused by local youths have been successfully targeted.
The system has been hailed as a flexible means of identifying and dealing with different hotspot areas by the partnership, which comprises representatives from both the police and Tonbridge and Malling borough council.
