Property developer Urban Splash’s latest scheme is well underway in Birmingham. Due to complete in late 2006, Fort Dunlop will include a hotel, office, retail and leisure space.

The phased opening of the development has already begun. Electrical contractor Mitie Engineering Services contributed to the speed of the programme on site with its choice of installation technique. Having won the contract to light the hotel and main building in the scheme, it was tasked with finding a way to speed up the containment for electrical wiring, fire alarm cables and trunking.

The firm turned to the Spit Pulsa 700 E nailing system. The cordless gas nailer reduced installation time and eased health and safety issues from hand-arm vibration.

Mitie has completed work on the hotel and is now using the Spit system for its contract in the main building. Much of the facade of the landmark building has been retained.
