Services firm wins all five of its races to win overall trophy at construction sailing event
Mitie ruled the waves at this year’s Little Britain Challenge Cup regetta in Cowes.
The recession meant entry numbers weren’t as bouyant as usual but Mitie still had to beat 126 other boats to be crowned overall Trophy winner.
The eponymous Mitie yacht won all five races in its Class 5 category, which enabled it to leapfrog over boats in bigger classes.
It beat the Stone and Ceramic Warehouse Class 3 boat and Capita Symonds Class 1 boat into second and third place.
The three-day event attracted half the number of entries from last year, but 20,000 was raised on the day, and 20 crews raced for the first time.
