The MDP and MGS have been merged to form the all-new Ministry of Defence Police and Guarding Agency (MDPGA)
The merging of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) Police and the MoD Guard Service to create the Ministry of Defence Police and Guarding Agency brings together two professional security organisations under a single umbrella and strengthens the services the Agency can offer its clients. It’s also a merger that occurs at a time when the MoD and the country as a whole are faced with a hugely complex and uncertain security environment, writes Brian Sims.

Following an internal study, 2nd PUS directed that the Guard Service should move to a centralised structure under the direction of the MDPGA. The study recognised that the current guarding structure wasn’t realising its fullest potential.

As a direct result, the Guard Service will now be able to provide:

  • a seamless service delivery which will increase effectiveness, efficiency and flexibility from its security resources;
  • greater opportunities for its members of staff to increase their own personal learning and scope for development;
  • a formidable competition to the commercial guarding sector.

An official statement released by the Ministry of Defence and made available to Security Management Today said: “In this changing and uncertain world security issues remain a key concern for all of us in defence, and the threat from international terrorism is a very real one. The most effective defence is constant vigilance and awareness. Complacency remains the greatest danger. “

The statement carries on to say: “All of the members within the Ministry of Defence Police and Guarding Agency have a major role to play in protecting MoD personnel and assets, and we shall be relying upon your professionalism and extremely high standards now and into the future.”
