MDA completes QS for Potters Bar church

MDA Consulting has carried out QS services on a unique new build church development in Potters Bar for client the Diocese of Westminster.

Designed by architect Francis Weal & Partners, the scheme recently won a RIBA East ‘spirit of ingenuity’ architectural award.

The church has been constructed from traditional materials, red stock brick, slate roof, and large zinc gutters and downpipes to echo the appearance of traditional lead.

The church space, enclosed by curved walls and a pine structural deck ceiling, uses daylight to create a numinous and restful environment. Lighting consultant Lighting Design International helped direct light from the spine rooflight to give direction to the liturgical action. A continuous ribbon of light from the clerestory windows floats the roof away.

Overall cost has not been confirmed.
