Alan Townsend, the Crime Prevention Coordinator at the Metropolitan Police Service's Flying Squad, has been awarded an MBE for his work in crime reduction in relation to commercial robbery.

Townsend's work has involved liaising with industry on a national and international basis, advising on crime reduction good practice and promoting strategic partnerships within the business community. In this role he has been the driving force behind a series of high profile robbery reduction initiatives, including Raid-control and Banknote Watch.
