Market research carried out by MBD, reveals that while the UK market has been down, there are forecasts of a recovery.
The UK domestic market for the door, door frame and window frame sector (including conservatories) is believed to have declined by a further 2% to £3802 million in 2005.
New construction activity and repair & maintenance activity in both the public and private housing sectors has also slowed significantly in comparison to the growth levels recorded in previous years.
The direct sales market has been worse hit by the economic slowdown. However, the builders/ contractor's market is believed to have increased.Furthermore, the government's Decent Homes plan to bring all social housing into good condition by 2010 includes projects for window and door replacements.
Growth is anticipated to return over the forecast period of 2006-2010. Annual increases are projected to take the value of the market to £4154 million in 2010, at 2005 prices.
The conservatories market is forecast to increase year-on-year between 2005 and 2010, culminating in an anticipated increase of 12% in real terms.
