A practical sustainability conference aimed at the mechanical and electrical services industry will take place at the Wellcome Trust Conference Centre, Cambridge, on 9 November.

Organised by M&E Sustainability, a joint initiative of the ECA and the HVCA, the event will provide building services engineering contractors with in-depth information on how to take advantage of the growing demand for sustainable buildings.

The event will be opened by M&E Sustainability chairman David Frise. His keynote address will be followed by practical sessions covering a range of sustainable building services topics from heat pumps, solar systems, biomass boilers and controls to lighting, legislation, waste management and renewables training.

Representatives of local authorities, planning departments and regional development agencies are expected to attend. Also there will be delegates from industry bodies such as the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Constructing Excellence.

Exhibitors already committed to supporting the event include Broag, Daikin, Mitsubishi, Schneider Electric and Worcester Bosch.

The Wellcome Trust’s Genome Conference Centre in Hinxton has been selected as the venue for the Sustainability: Challenges and Opportunities conference, owing to its impeccable environmental credentials.

These include a sedum roof, widespread use of natural lighting and easy access to public transport.

The conference centre, which boasts a state-of-the-art auditorium with seating for 300 delegates, is located inside Hinxton Hall, set in 55 acres of parkland by the River Cam.

M&E Sustainability is a pan-industry initiative to develop technical standards, training courses and awareness campaigns in order to ensure firms are adequately prepared for the increasing demand in sustainable building services.

The group produces guidance on subjects such as installing renewables, heat pumps and biomass boilers.
