A Sector Skills Agreement for building services engineering is nearing completion, following a series of workshops held by SummitSkills as part of its Horizon project.
Employers from around the country, government representatives and other parties have digested key findings from research carried out by SummitSkills and, following discussions, suggestions have been made on how to solve the issues facing each geographical sector.
While findings from some workshops are still being analysed, potential solutions include revising the existing qualification structure to make it more flexible, promoting sector research and development to benefit local businesses and implementing a structure to encourage workers to become industry teachers and mentors.
The final Sector Skills Agreement will become an action plan detailing issues, how they will be addressed and actions to be taken by each of the partners. For more information on the Horizon project go to www.horizon-ssa.org.uk.
