Cooper Lighting has launched the latest addition to its range of Crompton Lighting architectural luminaires. The Bali is a semi-recessed modular fitting that combines efficient louvre-controlled lighting of the working area with the visual comfort of indirect ceiling lumination.
The luminaire has been designed to satisfy the latest guidelines for the lighting of offices where vdts are used. The Bali's suspended optical assembly provides direct lighting from a central louvred section, while indirect high-level lighting is produced by a recessed diffusing reflector and perforated curved panels on the sides of the assembly.
Offering a light output ratio of 72%, the luminaire is supplied with two 24 W 4000 K Coolwhite triphosphor T5 lamps and a 65° Xenoptic anodised-aluminium satin louvre, which is retained by positive location shootbolts and fitted with hanging straps for hands-free relamping.

Compact Sprite
Emergency Lighting Products has launched the Sprite range of 8 W emergency luminaires. Measuring 343 mm long by 98 mm deep and 73 mm high, the luminaires are suited to both interior and exterior applications. The wide distribution fresnel lense is secured to an ultraviolet stabilised, white polycarbonate base by two screws, sealing the fitting to IP65 rating.
Each luminaire combines the provision of 100 lumens with a wide intensity distribution, giving even illuminance from the minimum number of light fittings. The Sprite series features a 4 Ah, high temperature NiCd battery and snap fitgear tray. Available in maintained and non-maintained versions this range can be either surface or semi-recessed mounted, making them suitable for discrete installation either as an emergency luminaire or exit sign. Other options include semi-recessed bezels and self-adhesive legend kits.

A perfect match?
Philips has extended its HF-Matchbox electronic ballast range to cover both frequent and infrequent switching applications. In the HF MatchboxRed range, Philips has introduced 9W and 14W versions. HF MatchboxRed is optimised for use in applications where high switching frequency is anticipated, delivering maximum lamp life.
The HF MatchboxRed is suitable for use in systems using movement/presence controls or the default choice where the ultimate usage pattern is unknown or variable. The practical ballast lifetime is a claimed 50 000 hours.
The HF MatchboxBlue version provides a solution for lighting applications with long burning hours and infrequent switching. The range has been joined by a 28 W addition and has a claimed practical ballast lifetime of 40 000 hours. The HF MatchboxBlue is suitable for use in halls, gardens, stairways, office, bars, cafes and hotels.
Compared with conventional electromagnetic ballasts the HF Matchbox system allows system energy savings of up to 25% claims Philips. Other benefits of electronic operation include immediate, flicker free lamp starting and absence of visible striations or stroboscopic effects. There is no audible hum and heat generation is also much lower.

Thorn lighting gets in Line
Thorn Lighting has launched the Line XS, an oval shaped suspended luminaire system. Line XS is an example of the minimalist trend in lighting design made possible by the slimmer T5 fluorescent lamp. Its slender shape and use of perforated sides, with blue or opal inserts, adds visual interest to offices, conference rooms and general commercial areas. The twin lamped luminaires, available in grey or white, offer a choice of three lighting distributions: uplight only or indirect/direct louvre or diffuser.
Line XS can be mounted singly or in continuous lines and the suspension height can be easily adjusted on sight. Wall mounted versions add further flexibility and integrated emergency and digital dimmable versions are available.
