Aviso provides new direction
Thorn has launched the Aviso range of outdoor indirect lighting luminaires. The rectangular light projector uses a 70 W or 150 W ceramic metal halide lamps. Thorn claims the Aviso provides an increased downward light output ratio while reducing light pollution. Each reflector comprises of 24 tiles, configured in a choice of arrangements to throw more light towards the longitudinal or transverse direction. The lamp is connected to the top plate via the luminaire body/tiltable arm which comes in two shapes with a further selection of dedicated columns (3·2 m and 5·2 m high).More information 172
Multi-tasking with Philips
Philips has launched a flat, 21 mm multi-wattage universal connector ballast for the full range of TL5 high efficiency and high output lamps. Suitable for applications such as shops, supermarkets, department stores and offices, the low height of just 21 mm offers the opportunity to create a miniaturised space-saving luminaire. Design scope is enhanced by the side-mounting capability. The universal connector speeds production as it allows for use of the ALF and ADS automatic wiring systems. The use of a single ballast for different wattage lamps offers substantial cost efficiency – including reduced stock holding and faster production.More information 173
Powering up

Dynamic colour change
Thorn Lighting has launched the Contrast Spectra, a dynamic colour change version of its Contrast architectural floodlight. The luminaire looks like the existing projector, but has been developed to allow automatic colour changing and scene setting. The colour filter system and motor are fully integrated in the rectangular housing of the Contrast C1 and C2 models and a small box on the side of the projector accommodates the programmer. Two versions are available: the smaller C1 version (150 W Philips CDM-T SA) for the illumination of structures up to 9 m high, has eight colour options using dichroic filters. The colour time and change over time can be pre-programmed. The larger C2 version (250 W Osram HQI-TS/D UVS) can be used for facades and structures up to 12 m high and allows 62 colour options using three dichroic filters. Simple control and the possibility of cable free programme transmission provide a user-friendly solution.More information 175

Lunéta GETs new downlighters
GET has added a selection of compact fluorescent downlighters to it’s Lunéta range. The low energy, recessed fittings are shallow enough to ensure their suitability for mounting into most ceiling voids and come in either single or twin lamp options. There is a choice of two styles: a low-glare glass design or a decorative floating glass cover version. The downlighters feature a white powder-coated steel housing and ceiling rim and are finished with a high quality polished aluminium spun reflector that optimises the fitting’s performance. The steel housing of the IP 20-rated fittings is designed to ensure that the downlighters will provide years of trouble-free service.
The Lunéta downlighters use TC-T low energy lamps and the control gearbox, which is separate to the fitting, is supplied pre-wired while installation can be quickly carried out from below the ceiling. The wattage options include 9 W, 11 W, 13 W, 18 W and 26 W TC-T lamps.
