The ‘truth’ about the NEC

The NEC has been heavily featured in a number of journals over the last few months since the OGC and ODA endorsed it.

Now that the Olympic Delivery Partner is known, the NEC will come under even more scrutiny. Fortunately people in Mace, Laing O‘Rourke and Davis Langdon have extensive experience of the form.

This is not the case with many of the contributors to articles by ‘experts’ and others in positions of authority. Many seem to be making it up as they go along : Michael Byng’s comments are a good example (News, QS News, 25 August).

I’m afraid many of your readers who know the NEC will have found it difficult to control their anger and many will have smirked at the obvious lack of knowledge.

As providers of the CCM system which helps to manage the NEC over the internet, we meet many people in a range of sectors who have been using the NEC for some time, and find it an excellent contract form. We have about 350 users running major schemes right now on the NEC, and most run it successfully.

Why not get some interviews with real PMs and QSs who have real knowledge of the NEC in action.
