The growth in school construc-tion presents a unique oppor-tunity to maximise the benefits of sustainable water manage-ment, as well as educating students about the importance of water conservation.

With this in mind, CIRIA has produced a free guide, ‘Sustainable water management in schools’ (W012), for use by the Department for Education and Skills, local education authorities, head teachers and school governors, as well as designers and contractors involved in building and refurbishing schools. The publication focuses on the principles and best practice of incorporating sustainable water management into school design.
