As we don’t seem to be getting proper winters anymore ... with daffs poking through in January and birds not bothering to fly to Africa ... thoughts of spring are not inappropriate.

And, of course, as far as all security people are concerned, spring means IFSEC. I mention this now because although half the country is still hungover from Christmas and the New Year, we at Security Installer are starting work on our new project – The IFSEC Magazine (see page 34). This new publication will be bound into our May edition and be at the doors of the show at the NEC so will have major exposure. We’ve got lots of editorial goodies lined up but, manufacturers, we need your entries as soon as possible.

Now we know you’re probably still deciding on your launch and stand plans, what your theme will be, how much wine and sarnies to order, but there are thousands of readers who want to know about your latest offerings and we want to feature them in The IFSEC Magazine so get details and photographs to us post haste. Remember, all this is free exposure and we choose products purely on what we think our readers – proprietors and working installers – will be interested in. Anthony Hildebrand, our assistant editor, will be co-ordinating all the product/services coverage in The IFSEC Magazine so get your details to him asap at ahildebrand@cmpi.biz

Our May edition comes out well in time for the show so an interesting launch product or service will get you an even better flow of visitors to your stand. For us at Security Installer the show is a real shopping spree and we pick up loads of products for Bench Tests and ideas for follow up features. The trends at this show always point to the way the industry will develop over the next twelve months. For instance last year there seemed to me to be three trends that pervaded the show. Every second manufacturer was talking about either intelligent video, on-board security or wire free kit as if they’d just invented it. Since then we have featured so many products and articles along these lines that there’s no doubting the show’s value as a surefire indicator to future development.

You may have noticed on our cover that we’ve added “The voice of installation” to our title. What are we talking about? Well, it seems to us that nowhere else is there the kind of forum on important issues that Security Installer provides. Over the last four months we have carried many pages of letters, articles and opinions on the Euro standards – the number one issue with installers at the moment. All this was sparked off by a single article in our November edition and it opened the floodgates for readers. All their heartfelt letters, reaction and opinion articles, are available on our website www.security-installer.co.uk

This month we give our regular “Euro space” to Tony Weeks who puts the NSI point of view and answers some of the points raised by our readers. From your letters there did seem to be confusion over grading so he has gone into this in detail (see page 14). And installers ... keep sending us your letters on the Euro regs and your voice will be heard by important people in this industry.
