Five housing associations have agreed to lead market renewal work in Liverpool in an attempt to pull 123,000 homes out of low demand.
Thirteen housing associations agreed a rationalisation deal earlier this year (HT 27 June, page 11). They met last week to agree who would lead in each of the city's five areas.

The lead organisations are Arena, Riverside, Liverpool Housing Trust, Maritime and Include. They will act as a point of contact for other associations working in their zones, the council and private developers.

The associations will be responsible for neighbourhood management, moving tenants, clearing property, acquiring new sites, consulting with residents and providing jobs, education and training as necessary.

Lead associations are to channel the aspirations of the whole group

Matthew Gardiner, South Liverpool Housing

Matthew Gardiner, chief executive of South Liverpool Housing, said: "We had a meeting to develop the plan to the next stage. Now the five lead organisations are going to have further meetings and begin to work out what they are trying to achieve.

"For the job to be done, associations, the council and developers need to have a very close relationship.
