A shortlist is being drawn up for the firm that will oversee the construction work needed if London wins the 2012 Olympics, writes Roxane McMeeken.
Client the London Development Agency has received 50 bids for the programme management role. Leading players such as Mace, Bovis Lend Lease and Bechtel are expected to lead the chase for the commission. The LDA is expected to announce the chosen firm on or before 6 July, when the host of the 2012 Olympics is decided by the International Olympics Committee.
The role would include overseeing the pre-Olympics construction phase, the games themselves, and the post-games removal or transformation of facilities.
The LDA has issued a separate request for proposals from engineering and environmental consultants to advise on demolition, remediation and other works in the run-up to the Olympics. The LDA said it was keen to use smaller companies and encouraged such firms to form consortiums.
Tenders have also been invited for project managers and QSs to work on a Velopark for the Olympics. The client will carry out the project even if the Olympic bid fails, because funding has been pledged from Sport England, the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, Transport for London and the LDA.
