Planning permission achieved for new Dublin rugby stadium project
A scheme to redevelop the Landsdowne Road rugby ground into a 50,000-seat stadium has received planning permission from Dublin City Council.
The Euro365m (£249.44m) scheme is expected to start on site next year and finish in 2009 - the project team includes UK firms Franklin + Andrews, Capita Symonds and HOK Sport.
"The overall plan announced last year envisages work on the stadium commencing in 2007, subject to planning, with a 27-month construction programme," the Irish Rugby Football Union and the Football Association of Ireland said in a statement. The new-look Lansdowne Road will have two three-tiered stands along the sides of the pitch, replacing the current East and West stands. Smaller, single-tiered stands will be built at either end of the pitch.
