Rented homes are set to become more energy efficient after the government’s plans to extend the Landlord’s Energy Saving Allowance were approved by the European Commission.

The scheme allows private landlords to claim up to £1500 a year per property for installing energy-saving items. The government claims it will save at least 150,000 tonnes of CO2 in 2010/11.
