A purpose-designed inspection label meeting the requirements of the Work at Height Regulations has been launched by the British Ladder Manufacturers’ Association (BLMA), the trade association representing the UK ladder industry.

The new self-adhesive Record of Inspection label measuring 60mm x 150mm provides space for the following information: The identification number of the ladder; the name of the person carrying out the inspection; the date of the inspection; the expiry date.

The labels are available in packs of 50 at a cost of £10.00 plus VAT, postage and packaging, and offer a flexible and cost effective alternative to traditional methods.

Ladders used on a daily basis should be subject to a visual check each day prior to use and, depending on duty and frequency of use, to a detailed inspection every three, six or 12 months.

The association also points out that the use and inspection of any work at height equipment should only be undertaken by users who are trained and competent.

The BLMA has nationally accredited training schemes for users, supervisors and managers and publishes a 40-page Leaning Ladder & Stepladder Users Guide.
