Gardiner & Theobald is planning to restructure its management following the appointment of Simon Jones as managing partner.

QS News understands that Jones, who took up his new position at the start of last month, will divide responsibility for the £69m-turnover business in three. He will continue to run the firm's project and construction management arm Gardiner & Theobald Management Services while the rest of the company will be divided between partners Gary Griffiths, an expert in the retail field, and Tony Burton, who has wide experience in the commercial field. It is not clear as yet how the rest of the business will be split between Griffiths and Burton.

Sources close to the firm say Jones is keen to share day-to-day management of the firm and wants to create a flatter structure for the company. "Simon wants to encourage younger people to gain more responsibility in the firm," a source said.

Jones took over as managing partner from Peter Sanders, who has retired. The firm posted its first results as a limited liability partnership in January revealing a profit of £10.2m on a fee turnover of £69.5m for the year to 30 April 2005. The profit figure was after £8m of operating profit was shared between the 81 partners at the firm.
