The perennially popular dome cameras are a staple of the CCTV business. Here we showcase some of the newer models to hit the market…

Complementary cameras

Honeywell has launched its new HD6 Series of PTZ dome cameras, replacing the KD6 Series. The new series boasts an expanded telephoto range and wider dynamic range. Honeywell says the new HD6 23x and 25x dome cameras complement the existing range of 18x domes.

"With an industry-leading telephoto range of 3.8mm to 87.4mm, the 23x Colour is one of the most affordable, high quality domes on the market today," Honeywell says. "The 25x TDN dome offers an enhanced telephoto range of 3.8mm to 95mm, providing the ability to close in on long distance objects with speed and clarity, which is vital for customers who need to capture optimum security images in the most demanding environments.

"Every camera offers similar features, including PTZ and on-screen display, which ensures they are easy to program and set-up after installation. All domes are available with five housing variations – ruggedised, nitrogen pressurised, indoor drop ceiling, indoor pendant and outdoor pendant mount."

All day and night

Genie CCTV says its new 3-axis day/night dome camera "provides high quality performance with outstanding ease of installation".

The VR-520XIR can be rotated and swivelled horizontally and vertically for optimum camera positioning, making it suitable for commercial or industrial surveillance applications. Its compact housing is vandal resistant, and the camera features a Sony 1/3-inch Super HAD ExView colour CCD, offering a resolution of 480 TVL and colour performance down to 0.5 Lux.

It also features a built-in high power 18-piece infrared LED assembly, day/night filter changeable and varifocal aspherical DC auto iris 3.8-9.5mm F1.2 lens, colour and mono automatic switching using CDS photocell, and DIP switch control of switching time, flicker, BLC and white balance.

Mini dome growth

DeView has replaced its three-inch mini dome camera range with a new four-inch platform dome with HQ-1 DSP and Pixim-based high resolution cameras, offering 540TVL and 504TVL respectively.

The MD30 series offers a new design of low voltage AC/DC universal switching power that provides a choice of power for the installer, as well as one handed quick-release cover removal. Installation is designed to be fast and easy, and the unit's 3-axis camera gimbal allows unrestricted configuration of camera position, focal length adjustment and focusing.

The series also provides support for a variety of factory and field installable options including camera, lens, UTP modules and mounting kits, depending on the requirements of any given application.

Upgrade for Vista

Vista is now offering upgraded models of its varifocal dome, the VFD3V9. It is now available with 540TVL of resolution, for improved image quality.

The new domes come with improved lens level adjustment, designed to assist the installer in producing the correct lighting response from the camera. The many colour options for the dome's base, inner liner and lower bubble provide choices to suit a wide variety of applications.

Vista says the domes offer "overt yet discreet surveillance, giving peace of mind without undue intrusion. The 3-axis gimbal facilitates greater flexibility and allows the dome to be fixed on a wall if the application demands it. The domes are used in hotels, reception areas, petrol forecourts and lobby areas all over the world."

Feature-rich

Panasonic's WV-CW960 features weatherproof housing, a 360 deg high-speed pan and tilt base, and a 30x optical zoom lens.

Other notable features include the use of Super Dynamic III technology, and the pixel-based 160x Dynamic Range. The WV-CW960 incorporates an Auto Image Stabiliser, to prevent blurring from high winds or vibration; Scene Change Detection, to identify and raise awareness of interference or sabotage of the unit; and an Auto Tracking function that prompts the camera to automatically follow the largest movement in the image, panning and tilting to keep the subject central in the surveillance image.

Harsh performer

Panasonic has also introduced the WV-CS950 colour dome camera. Once again, this uses Super Dynamic III technology, and is designed to capture top quality images in the most harsh, highly contrasting lighting conditions. Panasonic says it is particularly suitable for areas such as receptions or cash machine foyers, when sunlight and indoor light sources often overlap.

SDIII's intelligent processing drives many Digital Signal Processor features within the camera, including automatic back focus, which adjusts camera focus when switching between colour and monochrome operation. A 'One-Push Focus' feature is designed to reduce the time required to focus the camera during installation.

Indoor surveillance

Honeywell has introduced two colour dome cameras for indoor use – the HD3VC4SHRX and HD3VC4SAX.

Both the high resolution HD3VC4SHRX and the standard resolution HD3VC4SAX integrate a camera and lens into a single enclosure for round-the-clock surveillance. The compact, one-piece design of the camera and lens housing is designed to mount directly to a ceiling, wall, or to a 2S single gang electrical box to enable fast and easy installation. The 3-dimensional gimbal provides easy picture adjustment with 360 degrees of pan, 160 degrees of tilt, and 360 degrees of horizontal resolution.

The cameras accept 12 VDC and 24 VAC for proper operation and flexible installation and a service/monitor cable is included for easy on-site adjustments.

Honeywell says the domes are suitable for a wide range of surveillance applications including commercial and government sites, schools, casinos, retail stores, and hospitals.

Super Samsung

Samsung's SVD-4300 day night dome features Samsung Super Noise Reduction technology, or SSNR, which the company says ensures 'ghost' and smear-free colour images at lighting levels as low as 0.7 lux and monochrome images down to 0.005 lux at F1.8 in Sens-up mode.

With three-axis rotation, the SVD-4300 can deliver high resolution images of distant objects via its 100x zoom capability – a combination of a 10x auto-focus optical zoom lens and 10x digital zoom.

Samsung says it is suitable for both internal and external applications, such as schools, colleges, underpasses, retail stores and warehousing. It is equipped with motion detection, privacy masking, on-screen display and RS-232C remote control.
