I can confirm that quantity surveyors are changing.

As marketing and recruitment director for one of the largest quantity surveying courses in the country, I regularly visit students' offices. Over the years, I have seen the traditional QS image change and can confirm that there is a far greater orientation towards project management and cost control. However, there are still offices providing traditional services, where clients demand them. Finally, I have also seen the growth of PQSs offices geared towards servicing contractors at pre-contract stage. All of this is reflected in our teaching programmes.

Let QS News remain as the name for dedicated magazine for our specialised profession. Of course the range of services are wide ranging, but QS has achieved a high profile in an unstable industry. As the man says “It does what it says on the outside of the tin.”
