IP alarm monitoring

Electronic security services provider Secom plc has added IP signalling to its PORTFOLIO, offering end users a cost-effective, high efficiency choice when it comes to their alarm system monitoring.

Among the first batch of clients to benefit is one of the country’s most prominent building materials retailers, which is phasing in the new Secom service – itself based on Chiron Technology’s Iris IP monitoring solution – on a nationwide basis.

The retailer is developing 24 new stores each year for the next five years, and has specified IP signalling in tandem with Secom alarm monitoring for all new outlets. It is also considering upgrading 250 existing stores to the new technology. Quite a commitment.

As part of the alarm installation in each store, Secom fits an Iris interface which enables the alarm to communicate with the Alarm Receiving Centre over the retailer’s own Wide Area Network and the Internet. The primary route is an Ethernet connection using TCP/IP transmission, with mobile telephone technology being deployed as back-up.
