Access control
Intellikey has installed electronic, key-based access control systems with full audit trail accountability into BT-controlled telecommunications cabinets at key locations around Gatwick Airport.
Working in partnership with BT, the contract saw the replacement of existing mechanical locks with Intellikey systems to secure cabinets that carry Gatwick’s main telecommunications traffic from the airport and out to local exchanges (where calls are then routed through the normal international and national networks).
In reality, the system is not only highly secure – storing personalised data for positive key holder identification – but the audit trail facility in both key and lock enables the end user to monitor exactly where each key has been used, and when, without the need for costly communications cabling.
The upshot of that is 100% accountability at all times, with user-definable reports supplied to the customer’s individual specifications. The Intellikey system will also record any misuse of keys. Unauthorised keys may be programmed to disable themselves.
