Digging will begin early next year

Preparation work for the arrival of HS2’s first giant tunnelling machines has been revealed in a series of new images.

The two 2,000 tonne machines – currently being manufactured in Germany – will dig the 10-mile-long Chiltern tunnels from the site next to the M25, to South Heath in Buckinghamshire. The first machine will begin work early next year.
