The world’s longest sea-crossing bridge opened this week, between Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai in China. It took nine years to build and cost £15.3bn and the deaths of 18 construction workers. Its total 55km length (with access roads) includes a 30km section crossing the Pearl River delta. To allow ships through, the middle 6.7km dips into an undersea tunnel that runs between two artificial islands
