Tenant representatives in Hull have demanded last-ditch talks with the government inspector after the council threatened to withdraw previously agreed funding from the group.
Hull United Residents and Tenants says it is considering ending links with the council, pending a meeting with Ivan McConnel, the inspector charged with tackling Hull's housing crisis.
HURAT coordinator Eric Wedgner, said: "The trust between us and the council has completely gone now. These just aren't people we can sit down with – they send us threatening letters every time we have a disagreement."
Hull's interim head of housing landlord service, Sally Waltham, wrote to HURAT on 10 November, following an article in a local paper that said it was thinking of severing links with the council.
Her letter said: "If HURAT does decide to break links … the council would regard it as being in breach of the service level agreement and funding would terminate."
