How clean are your ducts?

The Heating and Ventilating Contractors Association has issued TR/19, a guide to the internal cleanliness of ventilation systems. The guide is an amalgamation of DW/TM2, the guide to internal cleanliness of new ductwork installations, and an upgraded version of TR/17, the original handbook to good practice for the cleanliness of ventilation systems. The guide is intended as a tool for ensuring that ventilation systems are properly maintained. Adherence to the standards set down in TR/19 will provide detailed, recognised proof that the ventilation system in a building is safe and well maintained, which is vital for securing insurance policies. The guide also includes further improvements to best practice standards with particular reference to kitchen extract systems, especially important given the elevated risk resulting from grease deposits.
