Air conditioning firm Daikin has taken its first foray into the UK domestic heating market with Altherma.

The launch of the Altherma air source heat pump system from Daikin is the firm’s first step into the UK domestic heating market.

Recognising the rise in energy costs and market drivers for more efficient methods of heating, Altherma uses the latent heat energy from the outside air to provide heating, cooling and hot water.

It can be connected to standard low temperature radiators and underfloor heating elements and can be used in new build and retrofit applications.

No flues, fuel tanks or gas connections are needed. The main components are an outdoor unit and indoor hydro-box. Air is pulled through the heat pump in the outdoor unit and the latent heat extracted from this is transferred to the hydro-box for use in heating. Outdoor units are offered in 5·7, 6·8 and 8·4 kW; two models of hydro-box are offered, one for heating only, the second for heating and cooling. All system electronics and controls are integrated.
