Vernon Coaker MP Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Home Office with direct responsibility for security and policing matters officially opened the British Security Industry Association’s (BSIA) new corporate headquarters at Kirkham House, John Comyn Drive in Worcester on Thursday 14 December.

“I congratulate the BSIA on this move,” said the minister, “which will allow the Association to provide an enhanced service for its 570 members who are collectively responsible for 70% of UK security products and services.

“In turn, this will assist in the promotion of professional public standards and ensure even better levels of public safety. The private security industry is a significant business sector that is now increasingly well-trained and resourced.”

In his response to the specially assembled guests who included former BSIA chief executive David Fletcher, Skills for Security chief executive Linda Sharpe and SMT’s Editor Brian Sims current BSIA chief executive David Dickinson added: “The BSIA has been based in Worcester ever since the Association moved from central London to Security House on Barbourne Road some 20 years ago. For the Association and its 23 members of staff, the move to Kirkham House marks the beginning of a new era as we prepare for our 40th Anniversary celebrations.”

Thanks to the move, the BSIA will be able to provide the following additional services to members: meeting facilities for Membership Committees, meeting facilities for members, video-conferencing and local rate 0845 telephone numbers (the main telephone number is now 0845 389 3889).

At the same opening ceremony, BSIA company secretary George Cross celebrated the significant milestone of 20 years’ service with the industry’s Trade Association.

George was recently recognised for his exemplary contribution to the profession of association management through the award of the status of Fellow of The Institute of Association Management.

David Dickinson told Security Management Today: “George has expertly managed the Association’s finances, all the while ensuring the maintenance of the very highest standards of probity among the membership. I’m sure that every member of the BSIA will join me in congratulating him, and offering sincere thanks for his tremendous efforts on our behalf.”
