Consultants win six gongs between them at Building Services Awards on Monday night at the Grosvenor House Hotel

It was an evening of multiple wins for consultants at the Building Services Awards in London last night.

BDP, Hoare Lea and Arup dominated last night’s 2008 Building Services Awards ceremony held at Grosvenor House Hotel.

BDP grabbed a hat trick of awards for its work on the Leigh Technology Academy in Dartford for which it scooped ‘Best of the Best’, ‘Project of the Year’ and ‘Best Use of IT’.

Hoare Lea added ‘Innovation of the Year’ to their third consecutive ‘Large Consultancy of the Year’ prize.

Arup walked off with ‘Environmental Initiative of the Year’ for their work on the Kingspan Lighthouse and also picked up ‘International Achievement of the Year’ for their efforts in Europe, Africa and Asia.

Smaller firm Red Engineering also won out, winning their second award in just three years. Last night, they received ‘Consultancy of the Year’, recognising impressive growth and superior service.

The prestigious ‘Major Project of the Year’ went to Faber Maunsell for their work on the redevelopment of the iconic BBC Broadcasting House.

The event is now in its eleventh year, and focuses on rewarding best practice, innovation and excellence.

Jon Snow, television journalist and broadcaster, and honorary member of the RIBA, presented the highly sought-after awards. This year the judges, comprising many senior industry figures, focused on entrants’ attitudes toward training and supporting their staff when making their decisions.

Since last year’s awards, a new category of ‘Product of the Year’ has been added, bringing the total to 17 opportunities for competitors to excel.

The winners of this new award, nominated by the readers of Building Services Journal, were Wilo UK for their Comfort Control Booster. They were up against stiff competition but succeeded in becoming the inaugural title holders.
