With reference to your article about the shortage of qualified Home Information Pack assessors in the July/August edition, I would like to say that it is no good the government moaning when it is to blame.

As a 57-year-old experienced and qualified electrician with good building knowledge, I thought I might look into it as a job for my later working years. The companies offering courses were asking around £5000 for qualification, when the government, which implemented the HIPs, should be offering grants.

Who in their right mind would spend that sort of money on something that is not even assured of happening? No wonder there’s a shortfall of assessors.
