Tyco Electronics has developed a high-density cable management system specifically designed for data centres.

The system can increase patch densities by 30% with improved cable management and access, compared with traditional techniques.

It addresses the challenge of how data centre and building distributor capacity can be increased without expanding real estate space.

The current design restriction for port capacity on a 42-unit cabinet is 480 ports, while providing a minimum of cable management of one per third cabinet unit.

The high-density cable management system can increase capacity by up to 1020 ports per frame.

At the heart of the system is a recess-angled 19-inch patch panel and high-density corner bracket that guides the patch cords from the front of the panel into the six- or 12-inch side ducts in a controlled way.

By using this concept, Tyco Electronics maintains quality of the link while increasing the patch-cable density.

The industry-standard angled 19-inch panels are designed to accommodate the Amp Netconnect SL series connectors, providing the choice for UTP, FTP and STP systems to support data rates of up to 10 Gbit/s.
