Low-energy light bulbs save tenants money – and needn't cost you anything
Low-energy light BULBS are easy to install, and with a little asking around, you can even find companies to give them to your organisation free of charge.

Last winter, Bradford Community Housing Association was approached by British Gas.

The energy supplier wanted to donate 20,000 energy-saving bulbs to the housing trust as part of its drive to boost green standards in the UK's homes.

The donation was also linked to British Gas' £150m Here to Help initiative, which aims to tackle household poverty in Britain's cities.

The environment-friendly light bulbs use only a quarter of the energy wasted by a normal bulb, and can save tenants about £5 each year on their electricity bills.

The bulbs also last 12 times longer than their conventional counterparts, so that's a saving of about £60 over the standard 12-year lifetime of the bulb.

We aren't the only ones to have benefited from energy suppliers' move to help customers save money while looking after the environment.

Salford-based housing association Space New Living was also given energy-saving bulbs by electricity supplier Swalec.

So if you have a spare moment, it could be a bright idea to give your energy supplier a call and ask what energy-saving initiatives it is operating.
