The Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) has welcomed the parliamentary inquiry into the provision of engineering skills set up by the Innovation, Universities and Skills Select Committee.

A recent ACE report, Skills Shortages and Recruitment Agency Behaviours, found there were 20,000 vacancies in the consulting and engineering sector. A new construction sector survey for the Learning and Skills Council found 61% of respondents would rather improve their current roles against 11% preferring to change jobs. Despite this, nearly half of respondents said they were reluctant to ask their employers for training. Nearly 40% said they would be more motivated if their organisation invested in their skills. The select committee is seeking written statements of no more than 3000 words.
