Contractors say nearly a fifth of maintenance spending is wasted because their clients do not plan the work, according to a new survey.

And property directors believe over a third of the energy bill is wasted because of poor property maintenance, according to facilities management firm Nickleby.

Its survey, based on 50 property professionals in large firms and 50 main contractors, found a majority of both groups believe the wastage is because maintenance is a low priority for most organisations.
