Hackney council has abandoned a £440m plan to regenerate an estate after problems finding temporary homes for tenants.
The decision on the Woodberry Down estate in Manor House, north London, led angry tenants to disrupt a council cabinet meeting.

The council has issued assurances that it will build new homes before the 12-year deadline it set for itself. But Jamie Carswell, cabinet member for housing, admitted the new plan would result in a reduction of the amount of social housing in the borough during the regeneration. He said: "There is a trade-off to the borough to get a massive scheme like this done."

The original idea to use a disused school to build 350 homes for displaced tenants lost out in favour of passing the site to a private developer.
