Environmental group Friends of the Earth has slammed the government’s strategy for the Milton Keynes South Midlands growth corridor.

The regional spatial strategy, which went out for consultation on Tuesday, will add 169,800 homes to the area.

However, Friends of the Earth said the government had not guaranteed how many of the units would be affordable.

Under the strategy, Aylesbury will get an extra 7250 homes, Bedford will not get any additional homes, Corby will get 19,200 more properties, Luton will get 17,550 more homes, Milton Keynes will expand by the same amount and Northampton will grow by 1900 homes.

The Milton Keynes South Midlands corridor has already received £95m of growth area funding and £1.2bn for transport schemes.

The new homes are in addition to extra units already outlined in current planning documents.

The consultation ends on 23 December.
