Plans to set up a UK Green Building Council have moved a step closer following a feasibility study carried out by Cranfield University.

The report looked into the models used by the seven Green Building Councils throughout the world and identified the key potential stakeholders, as well as possible barriers to the establishment of a UK-GBC.

Key findings of the report included the need for the council to act as a vehicle to bring together the many existing organisations in the green building sector, to be independent from any other organisation, have an all-encompassing membership and avoid becoming another talking shop.

Cranfield has also put together a business plan and launch plan. The next step is to establish a pre-launch steering group and appoint a chairman. Anyone wanting to join the steering group should contact Jules Saunderson at Cranfield University: email j.saunderson@cranfield.ac.uk.
