The how-to guide is aimed at those in the construction industry who want an insight into the green building movement in the UK today. The book is split into six main sections: green building fundamentals; renovation and repair; low impact building; energy, water and waste; a review of green building organisations in the UK; and finally a compilation of resources and useful contacts.

The sections cover a host of subjects including: guidelines on choosing and using green building products such as insulation, solar power, bio-fuel heating systems, roofing and interior finishes; the state of the market for green building – new-build as well as renovation of domestic, commercial and industrial properties; information on waste reduction and energy efficiency initiatives; and information on grants that may assist professionals and their clients in achieving affordable green buildings.

Authors who have contributed to the book include Bill Dunster, the architect behind BedZED; John Garbutt, who has been heavily involved in the consultation process for the next revision of Part L of the Building Regulations; and Stephen Lowndes, a services engineer with extensive experience in low-energy building design and and alternative energy sources.
