Kevin McCloud, presenter of Channel 4’s Grand Designs, has officially opened Buro Happold’s Brislington Enterprise College.
The college includes a biomass heating system designed to heat the building and provide hot water, and which Buro Happold claims reduces carbon emissions by 85%.
Natural ventilation is maximised with windows drawing in fresh air that rises through chimneys and leaves via louvres on the roof, and the building makes maximum use of natural lighting to reduce electricity use.
McCloud was taken on a tour of the facilities by several students and praised the building's design. He said: “It’s a great building that works really well and is facilitating the learning and lives of those who use it.”
