As a postgraduate student working in the construction industry,

I write with interest about the well-publicised Protégé 2007 competition. Having read the literature which supports it, I have come to the conclusion that this contest is little more than a self- publicising gimmick, synonymous with the general dumbing down of British culture.

It is nothing more than a graduate recruitment scheme with an attached ‘Golden Hello’, designed to appeal to the X Factor generation. Surely, any genuinely exceptional candidate would seek to acquire employment via a more traditional means?
